UNPROFOR, or the United Nations Protection Force, was established in 1992 during the Yugoslav Wars to ensure peace and security, particularly in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was the first major deployment of UN peacekeeping troops in a complex civil conflict, aimed at protecting civilians, delivering humanitarian aid, and monitoring ceasefires. The mission faced significant challenges due to ongoing hostilities and the fragmented nature of the region. UNPROFOR's mandate ended in 1995, after which the peacekeeping mission was restructured into other forces.
